Politics, they say, is a game of numbers, interests, alignments, betrayals, loyalty, and sometimes painful disappointments. But beyond all of that noise, one thing still separates real leaders from desperate power seekers, character. And in this season of political calculations and post-primary conversations across Ika Nation, one thing remains loud and clear in my heart: I stand with Dr. Donald Peterson.
Yes, the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives primary election has come and gone. The outcome may not have gone the way many of us passionately wished and worked for, but life itself teaches us that not every battle ends the way we plan. Sometimes, victory is not in grabbing power at all costs; sometimes, victory is in the dignity with which you accept outcomes and move forward.
That is exactly what Dr. Donald Peterson has done.
While many politicians would have chosen bitterness, division, media war, or political rebellion, Dr. Peterson chose peace. He accepted the outcome of the exercise and congratulated the eventual winner. More importantly, he called on his supporters and fellow aspirants to accept the outcome in the interest of the APC and for the greater good of the good people of Ika Nation.
That singular act tells you the difference between a statesman and a typical politician.
In an era where politics has become a “do-or-die” enterprise for many people, Peterson has once again demonstrated maturity, emotional intelligence, and uncommon political discipline. He understands that politics should never destroy relationships, burn down communities, or create unnecessary enemies. According to him, the party must come first, and the peace of Ika Nation must supersede personal ambition.
And honestly, who am I to say no to such a man?
As a loyal political son and follower, when my boss personally asked me to accept the outcome and move on, I had no reason to resist. Dr. Peterson sits at the apex of our political family. He is the visionary. He is the compass. Leadership demands direction, and in his wisdom, he has provided that direction for all of us.
That is what true leadership looks like.
The truth is that my admiration for Dr. Donald Peterson did not start because of politics. I started following him long before politics entered the equation. I followed him because of the content of his character and the depth of his mind. The man is intellectually gifted. He is a deep thinker, strategic in reasoning, programmatic in approach, charismatic in delivery, and transformational in leadership.
Some people command followers through money. Others command followers through fear. But men like Peterson command loyalty through inspiration.
There are people whose mere association with you elevates your thinking, your confidence, your exposure, and even your personal aspirations. Dr. Peterson belongs to that rare category of human beings. If you genuinely follow him and your life does not improve, then maybe, just maybe, your village people have held an emergency meeting concerning your destiny.
That line may sound humorous, but there is a strong truth inside it.
One of my greatest takeaways from this entire political episode is the importance of having what Peterson himself has demonstrated, a “second address.”
Every aspiring politician in Nigeria must learn from this man. Politics should never become your only identity. Politics should never become your sole source of relevance or livelihood. If elections do not go your way, life must still continue. Your productivity must not end because a political ticket slipped away.
Look at Dr. Donald Peterson today.
Immediately after the primaries, he moved on gracefully to what he knows how to do best. No public drama. No bitterness. No emotional blackmail. No destruction of party structures. The man simply returned to Abuja and continued his work as the Executive Chairman of Triax Technology, providing cutting-edge fintech, insurtech, and software development solutions to clients.
That is called having substance beyond politics.
And beyond business, the man continues his philanthropic mission through the D-Peterson Foundation, touching lives, empowering people, supporting communities, and adding value to society. For Peterson, service did not start with politics, and it certainly will not end because of one primary election.
That is why many of us will continue to stand with him.
Good men are scarce in politics. Men who can lose an election and still preach peace are rare. Men who can walk away from political disappointment without bitterness are uncommon. Men who genuinely care about people beyond votes are hard to find.
Dr. Donald Peterson represents that rare breed of leadership that combines intellect with humility, ambition with compassion, and influence with humanity.
And perhaps that is the biggest lesson here.
Politics is temporary. Power is transient. Elections come and go. But character endures. Reputation lasts. Legacy survives.
At the end of the day, people may forget who won a primary election, but they will never forget how individuals behaved during difficult political moments.
Dr. Donald Peterson has behaved with class, maturity, and uncommon grace.
For me, that is enough reason to stand with him today, tomorrow, and always.
Because beyond politics, he is simply a good man.
